The Myth of Schism

The article analyzes various historical myths concerning the division between the Or- thodox and the Catholic Churches. As an Orthodox theologian, the author begins from the thesis of inability of the Orthodox thought to formulate its position otherwise than in opposition to the Roman-Catholic theology. Analysing the major doctrinal and ec- clesial contradictions between the Orthodox and the Catholic Churches, he also draws attention to the challenges posed to them by the modern consumer society.
